I don't understand why you guys don't decrease the exemptions on your w-4, take less taxes during the year and deposit the money into a savings account or invest it somewhere so you can at least make a little bit of interest instead of letting the government hold onto your money and cash in on the interest themselves....

I've never had tons of things to write off so maybe im not understanding but it certainly makes more sense to get the money right away instead of letting the government hold onto it all year.

I got about 600 back total. Bought some drum shells.

a lot of my money goes into a retirement fund that's available to city government workers. i'd rather have money in there than a couple grand back every year.

.

That's just it. I have a mortgage, school expenses, union dues, donations and possibly some tax-deductible home improvements this year to write off so recovering some of those expenses is nice. Like you said, if you only have wages it does make more sense to keep your exemptions low and use your money in a more profitable manner than the government does (which isn't hard). I understand the allure of thinking of it like a forced savings account though for people who have trouble socking money away over the course of the year.

The only reason that I can see that having a ton of stuff to write off would make a difference really is if you are inconsistent/unsure about how much you'll have to write off eachyear. If you are consistently getting back 2,000 dollars a year I think you should tax yourself lower. You are still going to get to write off everything. You'll just get less money stripped from you that you can put into a savings account that you can use for emergency medical expenses when you have an accident with your ak-47. Worst case scenario is that you have to write a check and mail it in if you are understated.

Getting tons of money back doesn't mean you did a good job. It all evens out at the end of the year. It means that you did a crappy job of estimating your finances.

Thanks for the advice, knucklehead. I'll have you know that carrying a firearm was my profession for 6+ years, thank you very much.

Seriously, I know everyone else is busting your balls but I've been considering the interest gains from having the money year round over having a year end payment.

Truth is getting that big drop of cash helps us to prioritize that amount of money toward paying down bills, making home improvements, etc. Do you actually end up spending your money toward these type of things or do you end up spending the interest on weed like I would?

how you like the grip on that? my old roommate had a glock 26 and the grip was a little short in my hand, so that made it kinda weird.

I like it, some of those compacts Glock makes are reeaaally small though. That Glock 26 is tiny! I would think most would find it too small. Just nice to conceal/carry.
