highland park country club. close to red rooster. has great greasy food. pool trouble, megatouch. shitty jukebox. also, straight liquor shots are huge.
almost every time i'm there someone introduces themselves to me. total townie bar with really nice yet trashy and funny people.
also close enough to home i can crawl home if necessary.

Forgot about the Country Club. I used to go there all the time when I lived in that neighborhood. It's one of the best places to go for a good hangover breakfast. The weekend steak and eggs special is fuckin killer.

The bar in my basement is by far the best bar in Des Moines. In there you might be descriminated aginst, don't take it personal. Every shot taken must be broken on the floor. It's not uncommon to hear good music, when it's time to go skid row! everyone is welcome to smoke, gamble, arcade race, lift weights, fight, and mini-golf all they want. outside drinks are ok too. all drunks still there in the morning will be kicked out by 1pm.
