Oh, you've HEARD? The fact that you don't play guitar, makes this an even worse statement. Drummers are not guitar players and do not think or operate like guitar players. You hear things differently. You can sit there and argue that different in this case is 'not worse, only a different viewpoint' but I would NEVER take gear advice from a drummer or even MUSIC advice from a drummer.Shane wrote:Sorry, Musician's Friend (owned by Guitar Center) carries them, my bad.
I've heard several of those amps and many more like them. They sound like high gain tube amps.
Wrong- on so many points. There is no point in spending the money on those amps because they are all the same. A high gain amp in conjunction with high output pickups is going to sound like literally any other high gain amp. A/B testing will show tonal differences, but live or recorded (ya know, since they both utilize post-signal EQ) they are going to be virtually indistinguishable other than looks. All these "awesome tones" are interchangeable and boring. This is not a hard concept to learn and can be ascertained after listening to any of the bands that use them.
Hmm, I guess the drumsticks were a dead giveaway that you're a drummer?I don't play guitar, I play drums. I never claimed to play guitar. I'm really good at drums.
awwww, well I feel sorry for you too. You look like Stuart:You have never answered the questions, "what band are you in" and "when's your next gig". Your only tool in an argument with a 17-year-old is a picture you edited in paint. You're a sad motherfucker. I feel sorry for you.

What band are you in and when is your next gig?.......or do you just sit around wanking on your guitar at home wishing you could be as cool as Shane?Varg wrote:You have never answered the questions, "what band are you in" and "when's your next gig". nailed it. i took piano for six years before i started playing drums.Shane wrote:Right, so the years of training I've had with instruments like the xylophone and marimba don't count?

These come stock in Ibanez RG series guitars($400-500), for the record.Churro wrote:EMG 81s
Well duh. How else can you get fantastic tonal quality? Oh yeah, a metal zone.Shane wrote:These come stock in Ibanez RG series guitars($400-500), for the record.Churro wrote:EMG 81s
LOL, I can't believe you looked these up (which is hilarious in itself) and at the same time still managed to fuck it up- for more than half of your examples, you took the OTHER guitarist in the band that isn't endorsed by ENGL.Churro wrote: HAHAHAHAHAHA. Are you fo' rill? To name a few: Dude from Shadows Fall uses LZ4 pickups for bridge and neck, both of which are active. Jeff Loomis uses EMG 707s, once again active. Muhammed Suicmez uses D Activators, surprisingly also active, which leads us to Dimmu Borgir whose guitarist uses an ESP Galder V (with a pentagram on it because he's just that radical). That guitar has EMG 81s in it, and, you guessed it, those are active pickups too. I decided to stop there because I got tired of looking up equipment with fantastic tone. Enjoy your day, Varg.
This doesn't make any sense. You're sitting there talking about how great solid state amps are (which they aren't) and what do people ALWAYS throw in front of a ss amp because ss amps have shittttttttty gain? A fucking METAL ZONE. LOL, you guys don't even know how stupid you look right now...I can't believe this is a real discussion.Churro wrote:Well duh. How else can you get fantastic tonal quality? No, they don't. Because they're in what family? ........... that's right- percussion.Shane wrote:Right, so the years of training I've had with instruments like the xylophone and marimba don't count?
Dude, everybody on this board can say the same thing. Give me a fucking break. You're just articulating some really pedestrian shit.I have a pretty extensive understanding of melody, harmony, tone, etc. in addition to everything I can do on the drumset. I also record, so there's a whole wealth of knowledge regarding various instruments and amplifiers and how they fit into the tonal spectrum, but I guess since I'm just a drummer, none of that's important. That's cool. I'm glad you cleared that up for me.
lol, I never said that and you're a moron for thinking I did or that I even implied it. The whole point of that post was to explain that drummers operate on a different wavelength from everyone else. That's why I would never let a drummer influence my composition. Drums can make a big difference in composition, but they do not affect it harmonically or melodically. Rhythm and Melody are two VERY DIFFERENT things. The fact that you can't appreciate drummers musically just shows how ignorant and self-important you are.
No it doesn't. Only a drummer would think that.If my opinion doesn't count according to you, all that does is add validity to all of my claims.
Well I was talking about pickups because you talked about pickups. You must have missed that quote of yours saying that you don't have active pickups. What kind of gear do you have? I need to know what I should start saving for.Varg wrote:
And who the fuck even cares about who's using active pickups? This was an amp discussion you dumb faggot. Why are you talking about pickups?
Compose. Go write more KROOSH breakdowns. My neck doesn't hurt yet from figure 8 headbanging.Varg wrote: When I compose

Lol, really? This is possibly the most ignorant statement anyone has ever made regarding percussion. I mean, it's not like a marimba is melodic instrument or anything, because apparently if you play it with sticks or mallets, it doesn't count.Varg wrote:No, they don't. Because they're in what family? ........... that's right- percussion.Shane wrote:Right, so the years of training I've had with instruments like the xylophone and marimba don't count?
This was a joke, nobody would use a metal zone seriously. But the dudes in the fucking TERRIBLE bands that you listen to might as well because their tones really couldn't be much worse at this point. I mean, seriously, those bands are fucking awful. AWFUL. BUT WAIT, THEY USE TUBES IN THEIR AMPS.Varg wrote:This doesn't make any sense. I'm suprised that with all Varg's musical edjamakation, he somehow seems to overlook the fact that the guitar is a percussion instrument.Varg wrote:No, they don't. When I compose, I will typically allow a drummer to play whatever they want as long as it sounds alright and roughly follows my vision/direction.
