Where else can you find top-of-the-line Squier guitars at only twice the list price?! The deals are outrageous!

It's tough anymore to get really solid deals. Guitar Center was doing a pretty good job of ripping of the customers on trades, so a person could find quality used gear that way. However they've all but abandoned their used market. Keepers in Ames sucks. As for pawn shops, the deals are practically limited to off brands.

Knowledge of what you're looking to buy and craigslist, ebay, or friends are your best bet.

my friends are about outta stuff. i keep telling them they need more so theyll get bored and sell it to me later.
internet im about 50/50 on electronics. i was looking more for an excuse to go somewhere and maybe stumble across something. guitar center sucks real bad but yes sometimes they have something but its too expensive. i miss music go round when it was by half price books, nobody that worked there knew what anything was worth.

It seems like the only way they stay in business is through sales and rental of band equipment to school kids and total newbies.
I also just found out that they have an exclusive deal with the Des Moines School district where they have to buy all of their music/electronics equipment through Reimans. I had to buy strings there once.

main street music in ames used to be kind of cool.

Agreed. Why no other local music stores have adopted that market is beyond me. Back working for GC, I'd get people on the daily looking to swap good gear and buy/sell used.

I'm going to crazy horse today for strings, I can look out for something if you want.

There's a new place in Ames across from Keeper's called BRG Music... they've got some weird hours, though, so I haven't been in though. 328 Main Street, Ames, 233-4900. Looks like their website has some sale listings.

The guy that owns the ZZZ building is going to open up a music shop selling old stereo equipment and instruments. Knowing Brad, he should have some pretty cool stuff there.
