It's not gonna be the real Willabong, but actually Pilkington doing Willabong covers. At least I'm assuming this is somewhat accurate?kurtis wrote:oh fuck. willabong

Glad to see he put Husker Du and Rites of Spring on here. They may not have been lightning-fast, but the emotions were hardcore beyond comprehension.

that's solid. elliot, even though i think you're a total wuss. what about AC DC? AMIRIGHT OR AMIRIGHT? AC/DC is one of my favorite bands ever, but it's hard to put them in the same discussion as the bands we've been talking about. They do something totally different, with no semblance of art or any...

I know we're all just giving our opinions here, but I feel like I'm stating an actual fact when I say that The Doors are in no way better than Zep, The Stones or The Beatles. My evidence for this: Beggars Banuqet , Let it Bleed , Sticky Fingers , Exile on Main St . That's a four album stretch that y...

Misfits Karaoke - 10/30
Same setup as usual. Sign up, sing your heart out, have a great time!
Also playing will be the band I've informally dubbed the Des Moines Punk Rock All-Stars, doing random punk covers. And DJ Richie Daggers will be keeping the party going all night.
Starts around 10, 21+ and it's free.

Re: A very incomplete IowaHardcore flier archive (97-02 era)
I did see Botch at the Botan, but I was a dumb 17-year old and I didn't appreciate it as much as I should have. Saw em year later on Murder City Devils' final tour and finally got it.
Also, Low at the Botan was amazing, and Matt Davis did his solo stuff at that show too, which fucking killed it.

Re: A very incomplete IowaHardcore flier archive (97-02 era)
It was probably a guy from Knut, with their weird liberated European sexualities. As for why shows at the Botan stopped, I think over the years they just gradually got annoyed and disinterested in helping us out. Greg and those guys were more and more getting the runaround from them, and then they j...

Re: A very incomplete IowaHardcore flier archive (97-02 era)
That show was so awesome because it was two pop-punk bands, and then two weird crazy hardcore bands, and it didn't seem weird at all. That's the story of Botan shows in a nutshell: Nothing was off-limits and we were all the better for it. Morty, I have a shitload of those old flyers, so I'll try to ...

Bad Religion is one of my favorite bands, and though the only time I've seen them was a 40-minute set at Warped Tour, I know they are absolutely not boring live. They fucking rule at everything, end of story.

Re: The Tomb (venue -DSM)
Child thinks they can play every show, because as a guy from the band told my friend, "Man, we can play any style we want. We can play metal, hardcore, rock'n'roll, pop-punk, whatever." Which is either what you say when you have no fucking clue of what it means to be a band, or it's a comp...

Re: The Tomb (venue -DSM)
It's in the building we used to practice in, pretty much across the street from House of Bricks. It's run by some older metal guys, but metal in the way East siders understand it. Also, that Child band plays every show that happens there, even ones they don't fit on at all. Because they run it, they...
